Zoo Fun with Grandma and Grandpa

Today was 'Ice Block' day at the zoo. Hayden and I have a membership and I thought it would be fun to see his reactions to the animals playing with their food. Unfortunately, most of them weren't in the mood.

We talked grandma and grandpa into going with us so I was finally able to get some pictures of me with Hayden doing something, and grandma and grandpa too. It was a great day!

Hayden was terrified of the leopard who kept running back and forth behind Hayden in the glass, we got some great pictures though....

The first time Hayden went to the zoo was almost a year ago. I took a picture of us by the Mama Tiger and the Baby tiger. We were able to do that again today... Look at how much he's grown!

At the bird show the black raven comes into the audience to collect donations, well, the lady right in front of us donated a ten dollar bill. Hayden loves birds and was so excited to have one that close.
The bird would NOT go back to the wrangler, it just kept trying to give the money back to the lady. It was quite funny.

This has to be my favorite picture of the day. We donated 5 bucks to get a picture taken with the American Bald Eagle. I just love Hayden's expression, it couldn't have been cuter! And what a beautiful bird! It was magnificent!

And here is a shot the zoo volunteer took of all of us in front of the elephants...

And Hayden about 1 minute after we left the parking lot

He's such a trooper!

Sleeping peacefully!

Hayden had his '1 year' doctors appointment today. I know, I know, his birthday was in May...and he DID go to the doctor the day before he turned one. Unfortunately, there's some rule that they can't give the immunizations even ONE day early. Well, that doctor didn't work on Fridays which was when it was good for me, anyway, he didn't get his shots at that appointment. So...

...today he got SIX shots, the poor guy. He's such a trooper. He cried for about one minute and then was all smiles and flirts as we left the doctor's office.

And despite my worries that he's only gained 1 pound since February, he's doing great and the doctor says he shouldn't need to see him for anything other than sickness until he's 2. Woo Hoo!!

4th of July Fun

Hayden's 2nd 4th of July was much more exciting than his first (since he was only 2 months old). We went down to Moroni, Utah, where my parents have a house. I guess one of the traditions there is that they roll through town shooting off a CANNON-yes I said a cannon- starting at 6 am. The rest of us heard them, however, Hayden-well...other than a little jump on the one closest to our house...slept right through it. A little while later I woke him up and took him to his first parade. He was so funny, he loves to people watch and was just mesmerized by all the people, and he kept trying to figure out why the people on the cars were throwing things at him. He did wobble out and get a few pieces of candy, but mostly he just wanted to sit and watch everything going on around him. He had a good time, came home and took a long NAP! Which was a good thing because we kept him up LATE to go watch the fireworks.

Now, where we live, they have a lot of rodeos, and it seems like when there's a rodeo, there are fireworks. So, Hayden has heard fireworks before, but he's usually sound asleep in bed by the time they start, so this was his first official fireworks experience.

He was so tired, (we thought they were supposed to start at 10, so we drove over where they were supposed to be and waited, and waited, and waited some more....finally they started at 10:30) while we were waiting there were some little kids lighting spinners and small fountains near us, and Hayden was mad that I wouldn't let him out of his stroller to go see them. When the big fireworks finally started, they were so close to us that they were REALLY LOUD. Hayden watched a few of them, and then seemed to be bored. Then for the finale, they were being set off about 200 yards away, and they were even louder, grandma was holding him at that point and had one ear pressed to her shoulder and the other ear covered with her hand, so he couldn't see and he was MAD!!!! He was screaming so loud, but they were so close and so loud we were worried that his ears might get hurt so we just let him scream. All in all, I think he had a pretty great 4th of July, even if HE won't remember it too well.

Hayden blessed my life on May 2, 2007. Every day is an adventure and I look forward to each and every one of them.
